'COOPER PEDY'

After a cold and halfcooked spagetti meal (ran out of gas) the night before, we got to Cooper Pedy.

Cooper Pedy has the largest opal mining of the world. It is like a science fiction movie city. No trees and sand everywhere... Not my favourite place. It is not strange that therefor Madmax and other movies were filmed nearby at I think they call it Death Valley.

After visiting the Umoona Opal Mine & Museum we went to see Crocodile Harry. An old Latvian baron who emigrated to Australia after WOII to hunt crocodiles near in the Northeast. A real madman, but he was funny. Lives in an old mining cave which is decorated by womens underwear and other stuff people leave by.... If you go there make sure you have a bra and a picture of women's breasts and then you are even more welcome.
Make sure you pay him a visit if you are in Cooper Pedy.

Then we had a bit of a problem. We were short of money. Keycard didn't work, next place to get money out of the bank was Alice Springs, which was 650 km away, but we only had fuel for another 300 km. Then we thought we still had some American dollars. So we exchanged that for a bad rate, but at least we could move on now. Yes those things can happen. Makes it interesting as well...

Not my favourite place, though interesting to pay a visit and experience the way of life of those people (or see how they live anyway...). But I'm happy to have been here.
