<<<<<previous 'FRASER ISLAND NATIONAL PARK'
After we left Childers we went to Hervey Bay, the gateway to Fraser Island. There we stayed at a very good hostel, good rooms and a nice swimming pool. That is where Joost came into the story... After finishing his exams he finally made it to Australia on the 8th of december. It was good to see him! Was very funny, after the first few words it seems like we've seen each other the day before... Now here he was, wonder how this will be... day 1 After one night in our hostel we left at about 8.00 in the morning. Our first beer. We went on the ferry which took us to the Island, thought I saw my first shark out there during that trip... After getting on the island we drove through some nice rainforest to the other side of the Island. There we drove up to the North. It was brilliant! We were not the only ones with a 4WD, but we were defenitely the fastest. Actually you have to stop for every little stream that crosses the beach, but we just went even faster. So every 10 minutes we had to stop and sort out the Jeep. All the patatoes, chilli sauce and pepper went through the 4WD. That's how the other 4WD caught up with us.
We
stopped by at Eli Creek and had a little refreshment, beautiful!...
Finally
we ended up at Indian Head. The most Northerly part of the Island that
you are allowed to go to. day 2 We
awoke at 5.45 am, after just a few hours sleep, still half drunk...The
dingos had gone off with all our food, they're damn right those wild dogs.
After a huge task of cleaning up our shit (John got some help of some birds who ate his vomids) and visiting a public toilet where we gave Cas a little shower while dropping his shit (r u alright mate?), we were off to Lake Wabby. Had pain in my arse because of all the bumping around in the 4WD the day before. It was quite a walk from the beach to the Lake and it was very hot, but again it was brilliant! Defenitely worthwhile. Lake Wabby is surrounded by trees, but at the northside there is a very steep sandhill. We had the best fun running (and tumbling) down that hill. Up the hill there is some sand you can also find on Whitehaven Beach at the Whitsundays as well. It is so white that it never gets hot.
After a very relaxing time we went further down the coast, we were off to Lake Boomanjin but we got lost on the way. Missed our take and almost ended up at Hook Point, southpoint of the Island. But we made it, though just because it seemed there was some oil leeking.
Lake Boomanjin was top as well. After some 'sandy' patatoes, we had a sing along with about 50 people. I had such a sore throat but somehow I managed and played some guitar. It was top! We all ended up in the lake. You can walk for miles as the water never gets above you're stomach. Great! The next morning we went to a garage for our 4WD, but as we almost got there, it was all fucked. We contacted the company and we were allowed to get a new one at Hervey Bay, so Cas and me went back by ferry. After a dull day full of drinking a playing carts we drove on.
We stayed at Central Station that night. It was raining cats and dogs! Everybody was asleep except for Jay, John and me. Had another party night. day 3 Normally you only have 2 days on the island, but because our car was fucked, we had an extra day. That day we went to Lake McKenzie. Another place you cannot miss out on. Clear water you can drink and a beautiful view. First it was a bit cloudy and a t that time I took my pictures. A shame because it was a clear sky later on.
Back in Hervey Bay I found out I lost my wallet along with my capo (not even mine), bracelet,.. We spent a very good last night at Hervey Bay... O man, that was brilliant...
