Lima, South America, 23h30 ...
After a stopover of a few hours in Atlanta, USA, we finally got to Lima.
I think we were the only persons who had not booked some kind of accomondation in advance.
But that's the way we do it, that's the way we like it ...
We met this Dutch girl (with the funniest name) who was on the same plane and she was going to stay in a hostel.
We joined her after being picked up by the owner.
It wasn't really a hostel.
It was more a house with spare rooms available.
Nothing to complain about though.
Later I found out that this is quite a common thing in Lima.
After a goodnight's sleep, we went into town.
First we got some money from a cashmachine near a local market.
It was funny, cause we were quite cautious.
Not for bad reasons, because you simply always have to look after your stuff.
I like to point out straight away though, that I have never felt been agressed during my whole stay.
Just look after your stuff, that's all...
We went to downtown Lima.
Visited Plaza San Martin and Plaza des Armes.
One funny thing, every town has its Plaza des Armes and it's also the main square.
So if you get lost, or you need a place to meet, get to Plaza des Armes and you're sorted ...
It was quite odd, because I really felt like a famous person over there.
Everybody looked at you, like if they hardly see any Europeans.
That changed when we visited Miraflores.
A more modern and European part of the city.
We just had some food and drinks and went back to the hostel towards midnight.
We were about to go south the next morning.
That was quite planned; leaving Lima a.s.a.p and I have to say, that was not a bad idea at all.
Lima is not bad or something, but defenitely not special neither and this fog coming from sea hanging over the city for 9 months a year, gives it a bit of a grey and depressing feeling ...
