:: La Paz

It was 8th of December, day 38 of our travels. This time we were heading to La Paz. We drove through El Alto, appearantly the fastest growing suburb in the world, the place were the poor people of town live ... As you get near La Paz, the view is great. La Paz lays into an old crater and you drive down to it on the mountainslope ...

I like La Paz, it's a nice city. It even got a European edge to it. It's totally different to the Peruvian cities. It looks a lot more developped. It's hard to imagine that Bolivia is more poor than Peru ... But that has other reasons.

One of the big reasons is that Bolivia is so hard to reach transportwise. The airport is the highest of the world (I think) as La Paz at a altitude of +3600m is the highest capital of the earth. Apart from that they have no connection to the sea. In its history Bolivia has got smaller and smaller as neighbour countries kept stealing land of them. Chili are one of the biggest w**kers /t*ts as their most nothern part, the Arica area, used to belong to Bolivia. The fact is that Bolivia is the richest country of South America, only after Venezuala and has lots of potential. For example, there's lots of gas near the Chilian border. But to export this gas I've been told that the Chilian government wants 50% of the profits !! Than there's also the Americans who try to have lots of influence and profits. Personally I'm happy they have a new President Evo Morales, and native Indian who is not at their hands and who really takes care of the Bolivians ...

This time we stayed in El Lobo, basically a Isralian hostel, run by one and occupied by lots of them. There's lots of Isralies in South America. After the Army there are lots of them going here and they are traveling in big waves. It was nice though and thankfully we stayed here cause Leighton finally pulled ...
